Description
After escaping from brutal and life-threatening captivity, DC Sofie Lukina is convinced her abductors were corrupt police officers and refuses to speak to anyone except her closest friend, acting DI Jennifer Cotton, and her former boss, Detective Superintendent Paul Godden. Under their protection, she retreats to the high-security home of Henry Silk, Jennifer’s father.
Meanwhile, Godden launches a covert anti-corruption unit with Jennifer on board, and the race is on to find where Sofie was held before another victim dies.
When the charismatic and highly connected Detective Superintendent Desmond Short is suspected to be behind the abduction, the need for secrecy in the investigation becomes crucial. However, just as the net is closing around him, Short disappears and his trail goes cold.
Believing it’s a question of turning over enough stones, a determined Jennifer refuses to give up the chase.
But she is not alone. Desmond Short is also turning over stones, and as Jennifer moves ever closer to a final confrontation, he is more than ready for her.
