Description
In September 2004, I began looking for surviving veterans, and my initial encounter with Henry Allingham occurred just two months later. By September 2005, I had met my eighth veteran, Harold Lawton.
I was fortunate to meet and spend time with eight veterans of the First World War who shared their personal experiences with me.
This book contains the veterans’ unique stories, some of which are compelling and emotional, while others reveal the men’s humorous and compassionate personalities as they opened up about their lives, as well as my own personal insights and feelings from the journey I took to meet them.
I have illustrated this book using many previously unseen photographs taken by me during my time with these eight humble men, as well as my own contemporary panoramic landscapes taken at the locations where the veterans had lasting memories from.
