Description
Before the Game Boy, before the home computer, there was the glow: red LEDs behind smoked plastic, blue-green vacuum fluorescent screens and the first grey whispers of LCD.
The Glow of the Game: Volume One follows the handheld and tabletop electronic game from 1972 to 1980, from dice that roll themselves and calculators that play blackjack to Mattel’s Auto Race, Parker Brothers’ Merlin and the four famous notes of Simon.
All 138 games are photographed from the author’s own collection. Each has its own double-page spread: a full-page photograph, the story behind the game, how it plays, its specifications and three interesting facts. A double-page timeline traces the industry’s journey from Texas to Shenzhen.
A4 hardback, full colour throughout, 316 pages. The story continues in Volume Two: 1981–1985 and beyond.
