Description
The Venetian adventurer Niccolao Manucci (1638-c.1720) spent more than half a century in India as gunner, physician and envoy at the Mughal court. This first volume of William Irvine’s classic translation contains his Introduction and Part I: the history of the Mughal kings up to the war of succession between the sons of Shah Jahan and the rise of Aurangzeb, with a frontispiece portrait and thirteen plates after the Mughal paintings of the Manucci collection. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of Volume I (of four) of the London edition (John Murray, Indian Texts Series, 1907), reproduced in full from the University of Toronto copy. The text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and contrast have been reset for modern printing.
