Description
You would think that taking a holiday snap and doing a sketch of the same subject would be much the same thing. They are, after all, both recording a point and place in time. Not so. Apart from a little composition, the holiday photo is generally over in a flash (sorry!), and it’s on to the next one. A sketch, and the subsequent pen & ink drawing, is a wholly different experience. It’s not just that there is greater investment of time. It’s that you become totally immersed in the scene and time ceases to have any meaning. Whilst a photo reminds, a drawing transports me back, rekindling that total connection with the place, made all the more special for being a holiday memory spent with the people I love most in the world. I hope you can feel something of that connection as you wend your way through my monochrome memoir.
