Description
The ‘forgotten Army’ during the Suez Emergencies 1951-1956. The activities of murderous terrorists are outlined, including ambushes, sniping and attacks on civilians, riots at the Tel el Kebir Railway Station and firefights with well-armed Egyptian Police at the Bureau de Sanitaire in Ismailia. The 3rd Battalion is flown to Fayid from Tripoli as part of a task force of 20 000 reinforcements and based at Tel-el-Kebir before moving later to Fanara until returning to UK. Preparations for the 3rd Battalion involvement in the 1956 Suez Crisis are outlined as are how the ‘It’s on’ – false alarm -‘No, it’s off’ indecision affect its readiness to join the conflict. The final chapter contains a carefully researched and recorded account of the ‘1956 Suez Crisis’ provided by Patricia Jezzard, President of the ‘Canal Zoners Association that gives a factual picture of the whole distressing incident.
