Description
Long before it became a book, the story of Muroro lived in family memory, passed from one generation to the next around fires, in names, praise poetry and remembered places.
Muroro: The Man from Sena reconstructs the journey of a man remembered as having come from Sena, on the Zambezi, into the interior of what is now Zimbabwe. His story becomes one of encounter, illness, belonging, marriage and the establishment of a family whose descendants would spread across generations and communities.
Drawing together oral tradition, genealogy, archival material and historical research, Dr Tongai Chitsamatanga follows the Moyo Sinyoro lineage while preserving both what is known and what remains uncertain. The book explores family memory alongside the emergence of chiefly houses, migration, identity and the responsibility of one generation to preserve what it received from those before it.
More than a genealogy, Muroro is a story about how African history survives — through people, families and the stories they choose not to let disappear.
