Description
The guild calls it a quest. I file it as a case.
A scribe has been murdered at a gathering of 9,000 guild members: orcs, elves, dwarves, pixies, gnomes and more. Every member came through the town gates that morning, and every one was recorded by name. Nobody left.
The killer is somewhere in the register at the back of this book.
You have 30 clues to work through, covering names, numbers, professions and positions in the queue. Check each clue against the names in the register and eliminate anyone who doesn’t fit. Keep going until only one name remains.
9,000 names. 30 clues. One killer.
Inside the case file
- A printed register containing 9,000 fantasy names, including orcs, elves, dwarves, pixies, gnomes and more
- 30 clues covering names, numbers, professions and who stood where in the queue
- Full instructions and a worked example to show you exactly how the puzzle works
- One unique solution, checked against every entry
- The final answer is printed in cipher, so you won’t accidentally see the solution while working through the book
- Difficulty: 2 out of 3, the middle of the series’ difficulty ratings
How the puzzle works
Each clue gives you another fact about the killer. If a name doesn’t match the clue, strike it from the register. As more clues are applied, the list gets smaller and the possibilities narrow.
This is a deduction puzzle built around a very large suspect list. There are no riddles to solve and no complicated grid to fill. Just 9,000 names, 30 clues and a process of elimination that leads to one answer.
