School asks a great deal of a small nervous system. Noise, waiting, lining up, getting things wrong in front of people — and no obvious way to say that it has become too much.
Little Signals at School is an activity book for exactly that. It works through the specific moments children find hard, from the cloakroom in the morning to the middle of the afternoon, and pairs each with something to draw, colour or try.
A good number of the activities are quiet moves: small, invisible things a child can do at a desk without anybody noticing — which matters enormously when the last thing you want is to be looked at.
Useful at home before term starts, and useful for teachers and support staff working with a child who is finding school heavy.
