This book has been written in response to growing criticisms and confusion arising about the topic of demonstrations as a means of Da’wah or forbidding evil and political action. It is not intended as a refutation of any one person or fatwa, but is an objective look at the concept and use of demonstrations in Islam, especially in the context of the situation around the modern world.

Originally written in 2012 in the wake of the ‘Arab Spring’ uprisings in the Middle East, the arguments addressed are still relevant today following continued political action by protest around the world in both the East and the West.

The treatise is prefaced by a detailed explanation of the concept of ‘Masaalih Mursalah – Unmentioned public interest’ in Islamic jurisprudence, and the agreed aims of the Shari’ah to ‘achieve benefit and avoid harm’ this book comprehensively examines the alleged benefits and harms of protesting as a means of political activism.
