Description
A Stitch of Time, Mná na hÉireann 1916-2016, the story of a commemorative quilt and the women who inspired it. Tells the story of the creation of a unique quilt created as part of the Decade of Centenaries to honour three women who’s courage, vision and determination played a crucial part in shaping modern Ireland. This book explores both the creation of the quilt while also highlighting aspects of the activists lives, stitched together with respect and admiration for the contribution they made during the turbulent years between 1916 and beyond towards the creation of our state. These courageous and visionary women devoted their lives and energies in pursuit of an Ireland envisaged in the Easter proclamation of 1916, but had their contributions largely diminished and airbrushed from history. A Stitch of Time also recognises the dedication and efforts of the women who worked to create an enduring visual representation of history. It’s so important to have a written record of who they were, their motivations and reflections on their contribution towards the commemorative quilt. The irony of a team of women working to make invisible women visible, while they themselves faded into obscurity was almost inconceivable. This book creates a written record to compliment the quilt for both future members of the Erne Quilters and visitors to the Museum who may look at the quilt and wonder about the creators of this masterpiece.
