Description
12 Progressive Violin Studies is a collection of original studies designed to develop essential violin techniques through carefully sequenced musical studies.
Originally composed as part of the author’s Master of Arts in Composition portfolio at Coventry University, these studies have been refined through many years of practical teaching experience with students of different ages and abilities. In 2026, each study was expanded with Practice Notes, providing practical guidance based on common learning challenges encountered in the violin lesson.
The collection covers a wide range of fundamental techniques, including:
- String crossings
- Slurred bowing
- Spiccato
- Fourth finger development
- Third position
- Dynamic control
- Syncopation and triplets
- Harmonics
- Double and triple stopping
- Pizzicato
- Violin duets
The book also includes two original concert works:
- Rondo for two violins and piano
- Ramble in the Garden, with downloadable piano accompaniment and audio resources
Suitable for teachers, students and intermediate violinists, this collection combines original repertoire with practical teaching insights, making it both a study book and a valuable classroom resource.
