Heinrich Barth (1821-1865), travelling under the auspices of Her Britannic Majesty’s Government, spent five years crossing the Sahara and the Sudan — Aïr, Kano, Bornu, the Musgu lands. His journal remains one of the great records of African exploration, dense with geography, languages and peoples. This second volume, with its engraved frontispiece and index, is a facsimile of the American edition (Harper & Brothers, 1857).This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1857 New York (Harper & Brothers) edition, reproduced in full from a library copy.
