Description

‘Mary kept in mind all these things, and she pondered them in her heart’ (Lk 2:19).

The Florilegium of the Heart is a new rosary devotion to Mary’s pondering heart. It rises to the call of Vatican II to develop devotions of the Catholic faithful that come from the Sacred Liturgy and lead back to it. The Rosary originated in just such a desire of the laity to imitate the chanting in the churches of the Liturgy of the Hours. The faithful began to pray an Ave for each of the 150 psalms of the Psalter, the heart of the Divine Office. They called it Mary’s Psalter. The Hail Mary consisted at the time only of the two verses from Luke. To these scriptural verses the devotion of the faithful added praises or petitions of Mary and Jesus, one for each bead of the rosaries with which they kept count, and these grew into the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. Inspired anew by the Church’s Liturgy of the Hours comes this new Florilegium rosary, or rather, ‘both new things and old’ out of the treasure of Mary’s pondering heart,. Three Florilegia gather from the Liturgy its most moving scriptural verses and arrange them for meditation on the beads of the rosary, with a verse for each Hail Mary, like the Angelus, in a weekly cycle of seven Mysteries of the Lord and an annual cycle of liturgical seasons JoyfulSorrowful, & Glorious. Renewed by these scriptural streams flowing from the Church’s Liturgy, may the Blessed Mother’s rosarium blossoms anew. This expansive hardcover edition presents each day of the Florilegium complete with all prayers conveniently laid out, a saint’s meditation, and premium color illustrations of the mysteries Directions are also offered for praying the Florilegium in common with a lector leading a group. A more compact and affordable paperback is also available.
