Description

John Stayne is the ‘Mystery Maker’, a free agent dedicated to bringing justice to those criminals who have evaded the grasp of the police. When he is asked to aid Templer Varris, unjustly imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, Stayne is drawn into a set of criminal intrigues, finding himself in an adventure involving theft, narcotics, and a forgery ring so extensive that it has the power to bring down governments. Pursued by the police, can the Mystery Maker free Varris, and get to the bottom of the criminal conspiracy, before disaster is unleashed.

Austin Small was almost as colourful as some of the characters about whom he wrote. Born in the small town of Luton in England in 1894, Small ran away from home to work at sea at the age of thirteen. He served on a warship during the First World War, and became the naval heavyweight boxing champion, before turning to writing. In the early 1920s he had a successful career as a writer of mysteries, which were published under the pseudonym of ‘Seamark’. Small would write over thirty novels before his untimely death in 1929. This edition represents a return to print of The Mystery Maker for the first time in a century, making the writings of Austin Small available to a modern audience.
