Description
In response to the increasing interest and awareness of Burford’s rich heritage and thirst for further information, a selection of these works has been gathered together and published under the general title of Burford Papers. The individual subjects are as follows:
- The Burford Year: Markets, Fairs and Festivals – the regular weekly market, the annual cycle of fairs, celebrations of national events and brief look at a church year
- The Ancient Boundaries of Taynton – its early boundaries and its later history
- John Meade Falkner and Burford – buried in the town, this writer was a major benefactor of St John the Baptist Church
- The Recreation Society and the Falkland Hall – the town’s grand pageants, annual fetes, celebrations and the hall’s use as a community centre
- Burford’s Churches and Churchmen Revisited – new material ranging from the Great Storm 1703 to the Indian Curate 1860–70
- More Light on the Inns of Burford – new information to augment that contained in the popular Inns of Burford
- Tom, Dick and Harry and Others Like Them – infamous highwaymen, crime and punishment, law and order
