But Nova notices that the project maps exclude the people living beside the discovery. Springs are changing. Drilling reaches places local records say should remain untouched. The town of Narin has been promised jobs, roads and investment, yet the people carrying the environmental risk have the least control over the data.
Rook discovers something even more unsettling. The Ghost Element is not simply ore waiting to be mined. The working fragments may have been cut from a much larger engineered structure hidden beneath the mountains—an ancient system whose purpose nobody fully understands.
When material disappears, unauthorised tests begin and the Wraith aircraft becomes dangerously difficult to track, Nova and Rook are pulled into a race involving sabotage, strategic secrecy, failing water systems and a technology that can vanish from the very instruments meant to keep it safe.
To prevent catastrophe, they must decide what knowledge should be published, what must remain restricted and who has the authority to make that choice.
Because the real question is not whether humanity can build the next generation of stealth technology.
It is whether anyone should.
