Description
Turn French practice into an unforgettable year-long adventure.
My First Year in France: FranceQuest 365 is a richly illustrated 442-page learning journey for ages 8–18, with one practical French mission for every day of the year. Learners speak, listen, read, decode, solve and create as they explore the fictional French town of Belle-Rive and build the confidence to use French in meaningful everyday situations.
My First Year in France: FranceQuest 365 is not a conventional vocabulary or grammar workbook. Every day presents a purposeful, real-life mission that encourages learners to use French to achieve something practical and to learn daily life French easily.
Learners will practise how to:
- greet people and introduce themselves;
- ask questions and keep a conversation moving;
- understand useful French sounds and pronunciation patterns;
- read signs, maps, menus, messages, tickets and timetables;
- order food, shop within a budget and check information;
- make plans, travel, ask for directions and handle changes;
- repair misunderstandings and ask someone to repeat;
- describe experiences, give opinions and solve everyday problems;
- welcome and guide another learner in French.
Three flexible challenge routes
Every daily mission offers three ways to participate:
START – approximately 10 minutes
Use clear support to point, choose, repeat, complete a short response or act out an exchange.
STRETCH – approximately 15 minutes
Change a detail, add a reason, ask a follow-up question or connect several sentences.
OWN IT – approximately 20 minutes
Respond with less support, explain information, handle a surprise or create a longer spoken or written message.
Learners can change routes whenever they need to. The same book can therefore support a younger beginner, an older independent learner or family members learning together.
Seven varied learning experiences
The FranceQuest 365 learning cycle keeps each week varied and purposeful:
Live the Scene introduces a realistic situation and communication goal.
Sound Lab develops listening, rhythm and pronunciation.
Build It helps learners construct reusable French phrases.
Decode It uses practical materials such as signs, maps, forms, menus, messages and tickets.
Say It develops natural responses and conversation skills.
Solve It turns French into a tool for resolving practical problems.
Echo & Evidence revisits earlier learning and helps the learner recognise what they can now do.
At the end of each month, a larger France Passport mission combines earlier skills into one connected challenge.
Designed for ages 8–18
Younger learners can speak, point, draw, role-play or work alongside a trusted adult. Older learners can extend the same situations through longer speaking, writing, explanation and mediation.
This flexible structure makes the book suitable for:
- independent learners;
- home education and homeschooling;
- family language learning;
- tutoring and small-group practice;
- visual and practical learners;
- children and teenagers preparing to visit France;
- anyone who finds traditional language exercises difficult to connect with real life.
A richly illustrated journey through France
Each mission combines practical French with colourful illustrated scenes, learner response spaces, challenges and retrieval activities. The fictional setting gives learners a safe place to experiment, make mistakes, ask for help and try again.
Work through the reading, writing and practical activities on paper, and use the online audio companion for the French listening models and exercises. A pencil and opportunities to speak aloud complete the experience.
