“Mummy Smell My Nose!”

Use this book to help children explore their sense of smell and taste.

Some children may not realise that they cannot smell things like other people can or that their taste can be affected too.

This book is a great way to encourage children to talk about the sensory subjects of smell and taste.

Engage with children in the classroom and at home. Ask them to think about all the smells around them. What can they smell? Are they good or bad smells? How do smells make them feel or affect their mood?

Discuss the importance of being able to smell smoke or gas fumes wherever you are and how to stay safe in school and in your home if you or someone in your house cannot smell.

Help children to understand how and why to check when food and drink has ‘gone bad’ and should not be consumed.
