Description
Mara likes to believe the best in people.
When her grandmother gives her a pair of magical pink heart-shaped glasses, Mara begins to see the world through a different lens. Everything seems a little brighter, and it’s easy to believe that everyone has a good heart.
But as she goes about her days, Mara begins to notice things that don’t quite make sense. A friend who is kind only when it suits her. Someone who always needs to be admired. People who say all the right things, yet behave very differently.
Little by little, Mara learns that being kind doesn’t mean she has to believe everything she is told, excuse hurtful behaviour or ignore her own feelings. She discovers that sometimes saying no is not unkind. It’s simply knowing when to stand up for herself.
Hearts in Her Eyes is a story about friendship, trust and learning to see people for who they are, rather than who we hope they might be.
Through Mara’s experiences, the story explores empathy, self-respect, emotional awareness and the importance of healthy boundaries.
Some lessons are easy to recognise. Others take a little longer to understand.
And perhaps, somewhere along the way, adults might recognise a few things too.
