Bomb aimer Harry Wilson, a working-class 21-year-old from Glasgow, flew forty-five ops, many with an elite Pathfinder squadron. He saw intense action including the Battle of Berlin and bombing support for D-Day.
Surviving the war against enormous odds, Harry volunteered to work on the team recovering lost comrades, seeking out the bodies of airmen lost attacking Germany, laying them to rest in Commonwealth War Cemeteries, and giving closure to the families of Bomber Command’s dead.
Ghosts in Pencil is a history, biography, memoir, and requiem. It is also the story of one RAF Bomber Command airman’s experiences in World War Two and tells of dramatic actions over Nazi Germany and occupied Europe, only hinted at in the sparse entries of a bomb aimer’s logbook.
