Description

Held in Dr. Wardlaw’s Chapel, Glasgow, in June 1836, this public discussion opposed the British abolitionist George Thompson and the American Presbyterian minister Robert J. Breckinridge over five evenings. The second American edition, published in Boston by Isaac Knapp, adds notes by William Lloyd Garrison and an appendix of letters by Breckinridge, Charles Stuart and Robert Bernard Hall. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1836 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
