Description

An engraving rarely carries a full name; it carries a mark. Georges Duplessis, keeper of prints at the Bibliotheque nationale, and Henri Bouchot compiled this dictionary so that a collector could go from the mark to the man. Each entry gives the monogram, the engraver, his dates and his manner.It remains in use, alongside Nagler, wherever unsigned prints are catalogued.This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1886 Paris edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
