Description

Coffee Table Book of: The Amber Hour. Whiskey begins with grain, water and the work of making. This collection follows the materials through simple views of barley, copper vessels, fitted oak and the tools of the cooper.

Plain bottles and glasses make room for colour and light. Close details of wood, grain and metal sit beside quiet storehouses, bare workshop floors and open country.

The arrangements focus on shape and texture: a curved stave, the rim of a glass, a coil of copper and the broad middle of a barrel. Every scene leaves space for a slower look.

Short notes run through the book, on materials, vessel shapes and the craft of storing spirits: a cask is made from curved wooden staves held together by hoops, the circular head closes the end of a cask, a funnel guides liquid through a narrow opening, and wooden buckets use fitted staves in a form related to cask making.

Printed in full colour on heavy 150gsm coated paper at 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 inches), as a paperback.
