Description
Coffee Table Book of: Rock. Rock can be read in its grains, layers, curves and broken edges. This collection brings small specimens and open landscapes together, with each view centred on a clear natural form.
Granite, sandstone and limestone appear beside dark volcanic material, pale marble and reflective mineral fragments. Close views turn to veins, pores, crystal faces and the lines within a layered piece.
Small arches, isolated outcrops and sea stacks stand in open ground or water. The scenes move through clear mornings, cloud, mist and evening light, keeping the shape of the stone easy to follow.
Short notes run through the book, on texture, weathering and the different forms of natural stone: a sea stack stands apart from the shore around it, an isolated boulder can stand out against an open meadow, some limestone contains traces of earlier living organisms, and the edge of a layered stone shows its structure differently from its face.
Printed in full colour on heavy 150gsm coated paper at 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 inches), as a paperback.
