Description
Botanical Treasure of Laos – Volume 1: The Orchids offers unprecedented visual documentation of the country’s wild orchid flora. Built from two decades of fieldwork, this first volume presents 50 identification plates produced to the V2 standard of handheld focus stacking, delivering near edge-to-edge sharpness of living plants.
Species are arranged alphabetically by Latin scientific name, each accompanied by the author and year of description, flower size, and simple icons indicating lifestyle (epiphyte, lithophyte or terrestrial) and the presence or absence of scent. The text remains concise, prioritising the high-resolution images so that essential botanical characters can be recognised directly.
Most plates are the work of Somchit Sudavanh, created within the TAXA NATURAE framework developed by Nathanael Maury. The project aims to record Earth’s biodiversity at lasting visual quality before it is lost; this volume forms the first botanical chapter of that archive, focused on the orchids of Laos.
A precise modern reference for botanists, orchid enthusiasts and anyone concerned with the documentation and conservation of Southeast Asian flora.
