Description
Miguel Asin Palacios (1871-1944), the great Spanish Arabist, devoted his first major work to al-Ghazali (Algazel), the eleventh-century theologian and mystic. The book opens with a long introduction on religious thought in Islam, follows with a biography of Algazel, then sets out his dogmatic theology, his moral teaching and his ascetic and mystical method, largely through translated and annotated extracts from the Ihya and other works, with appendices on his esoteric writings. Prologue by Marcelino Menendez y Pelayo. Coleccion de estudios arabes, VI.This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1901 Zaragoza edition (Comas hermanos), reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
