Description
English translation by Lt.-Colonel A. S. G. Jayakar of the Hayat al-Hayawan of Kamal al-Din ad-Damiri (d. 1405), the great medieval Arabic encyclopaedia of animals, published in London by Luzac & Co. and in Bombay by D. B. Taraporevala Sons & Co. Volume II, Part I (1908) continues the lexicon, with additions and corrections and an index; no further part of the translation was ever published. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the original edition, reproduced from library copies; the historical text is reproduced without modification, only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
