C H Spurgeon (1834-1892) begins by showing the difference between real and nominal religion, the origin of all true religious experience being the promise of salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.
With Christ come all the wonderful promises of God. These relate to this life as well as the next and are always far greater than we realise, coming from the inexhaustible resources and willingness to bless that characterise our God. Indeed, the Lord Jesus Christ is shown to be the sum and substance of the promises.
We are urged to identify and plead the promises appropriate to our circumstances in true faith and confidence. God has never yet gone back on His promises! He never will!
