Gemma was thrilled that my wife, Laura, and I had finally given in to her requests for a pony. Unfortunately, her excitement soon turned to dispair when the storybook image of a pony, always eager to be ridden, always in good health, and always obedient and loving, turned out to be far from reality.
Having to cope with a complete lack of knowledge of the equestrian world, and the heartbreak of a freak accident to our pony, this story charts the decade-long relationship we had with Mya, a pretty bay cob, and how, with lots of love and dedication, Gemma was able to make her into a very special companion throughout her teenage years.
Based in the countryside where County Durham meets North Yorkshire, this book describes both the immense joys and the harsh realities of owning a pony, and includes short stories related to the natural world in our area. Our story will be enjoyed by anyone interested in horses and ponies, and the outdoor life in general.
