Born in Woolwich, S.E. London, in May 1943, Alan Cox lived in the same terraced house in nearby Abbey Wood for the following twenty years. During the post-war days of rationing amid the bomb sites, he watched his parents making what little money was available, go round. With a toolmaker father who loved nothing better than making what he couldn’t buy, and a highly practical mother ensuring her children never went without, ingenuity and invention surrounded him. This inspiration rubbed off on the young lad, and remained indelibly printed on his memory.
