Description
May these recipes provide you with inspiration and encourage you to find joy in your low protein cooking.
Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEMs) are rare, genetically inherited conditions which involve errors in metabolic pathways throughout the body. IEMs are mainly associated with the incorrect processing of food, and problems with the storage of carbohydrates, fats and protein. A large portion of IEMs involve disruption to the normal processing of protein, and require lifelong treatment with a protein restricted diet.
Despite advances in medical management, staying ‘on diet’ is the most effective way to maintain normal healthy development in people with disorders of protein metabolism. Finding food that is appealing, enjoyable and similar to ‘normal’ food is challenging. Good food is not only about how it tastes, but it is a combination of taste, smell and appearance.
The Low Pro Living Cookbook aims to add both excitement and normality to low protein eating.
