Description

The Avro Manchester remains one of the RAF’s most intriguing wartime aircraft — a bold, ambitious design whose troubled service life ultimately paved the way for one of the most successful bombers of the Second World War, the Lancaster. In this Warpaint volume, the Manchester’s complex story is explored in depth, from its development around the Rolls‑Royce Vulture engine to its operational deployment with Bomber Command during the early years of the conflict.

Packed with archive photography, detailed colour profiles, scale drawings, and expert analysis, this title examines the aircraft’s technical challenges, its frontline performance, and the lessons learned that shaped its legendary successor. Modellers will find comprehensive coverage of camouflage schemes, markings, and unit histories, along with practical guidance for building accurate scale replicas.

Warpaint No. 103 offers a definitive, richly illustrated reference on an aircraft often overshadowed by its more famous descendant, restoring the Manchester to its rightful place in RAF aviation history.
