Description
One ship. One crew. One fragile hope at the edge of the stars.
Captain Benjamin Drace commands the Integrated Security Force (ISF) vessel Odin on a demanding patrol mission far beyond known sectors. Although his commitment to service is unquestionable, he finds himself wrestling with doubts about the sacrifices he has made for his career.
His personal conflict is brutally interrupted when long-range sensors detect a massive surface explosion on a nearby planet in the Curlani system. The resulting shock wave strikes the Odin, causing a spatial anomaly and critically damaging the ship’s engines. Benjamin leads a landing party to the blast site to look for survivors. The outpost has been destroyed, but he finds a mysterious, young boy unharmed by the devastation.
The mission is complicated by the sudden arrival of the Curlani transport Caisses, captained by Lar Setlan. He seems indifferent to the loss of his base and hundreds of his people, but is concerned about the boy, whom he calls Izan. Benjamin soon realizes that Setlan’s interest in the child is tied to the calamity that destroyed his base. Izan holds the key to a vast, hidden wealth that the desperate Curlani seek, including the mineral deposits necessary to repair his ship. With Odin’s power fading fast, Captain Drace and his crew must stop Setlan’s desperate scheme and protect the vulnerable boy, whose struggle against Setlan’s efforts to enslave his people threatens the stability of his ship and the survival of his crew.
