Description

The book (in Hebrew) is dedicated to researching and documenting the Shabbat practices that are rooted in Kabbalah.  The book thoroughly investigates the historical and ideological evolution of these practices from Biblical times to their current manifestation. For this purpose, diverse bibliographical sources were examined, both in print and in manuscript.

To provide an appropriate background for these practices, a first chapter, discussing Kabbalistic concepts, was introduced.  It covers the central ideas that stood at the foundation of the customs and shaped their practice. Research of the sources teaches that the customs were diversely implemented in the colorful Kabbalastic circles.

The author, Professor Moshe Hallamish, Professor Emeritus at Bar Ilan University, has published over 100 articles in the field of Kabbalah and related topics.  He has also edited many works and served for many years as the Editor-in-Chief of the Da’at journal, which is dedicated to the study of Kabbalah and Jewish Philosophy.

This revised, second edition (2024), includes dozens of corrections and additional notes to the original sold-out version.
