Ed Marishta
I was born and raised in the small town of Gramsh, Albania, in a time of challenging economic conditions and political upheaval. A renowned geologist in his area, my father was away with work much of the time, therefore, the task of raising, educating, and caring for me and my siblings fell mostly upon my mother. It was thanks to her nightly bedtime stories that I grew up with an imagination that never really sat still. At ten, I wrote my first real attempt at a story, about a boy with psychic powers, but I lost that manuscript before I ever finished it. It would be years before I picked up writing again.
The changing of the political climate in the 1990s, followed by the mass immigration of Albanian people in search of a better life, also prompted me and my siblings to immigrate to neighboring Greece for several years, and later on to the UK. Through all this, I kept working on projects and ideas for novels, as well as translation works, which helped with my language skills, up to the point where I felt confident enough to write in English.
On January 2014, I finally published my first novel, Book of Daniel. It started small: a drawing of a creature gazing up at the moon, made as a gift for someone I loved. That drawing eventually grew into a full trilogy, Book of Daniel, Book of Serena, and Book of Joshua, following a Dreamer whose choices ripple across a world of mermaids, wingmen, and a moon that always feels within reach. Readers who want to start at the very beginning can pick up The First King, a free prequel novella recently finished. The trilogy now holds an average rating of 4.7 stars on Goodreads, and 5 stars on Amazon, Apple Books and other stores.
I live in the USA these days, though Albania is still home in the ways that matter. When I’m not writing, I’m usually buried in end-times theology and Bible study, and that habit of mind tends to slip into my stories whether I plan it or not.
I’m currently working on a new trilogy, The Age of the King, opening with The Eden Protocol. If Endërland was about the world on the other side of sleep, this one is about what happens at the end of this age and the start of the new one, the one where the King of Kings will reign.
Despite the modest success of The Endërland Chronicles, I still don’t think of myself as a professional writer, and you might be inclined to agree with me. But I do love telling stories, and I’m glad that you’re here to share them with me.
Blessings!
