C. R. Dempsey is the author of the Viking Age novels Viking Dawn and Viking Oathbreaker, as well as the Exiles series set in Elizabethan Ireland. Fascinated by history from an early age, he found historical fiction the natural outlet for a lifetime of accumulated knowledge and relentless curiosity about the past. His novels combine gritty action, political intrigue, and the harsh realities of life in turbulent periods of Irish history. Whether writing about Viking invasions or the struggles of Gaelic Ireland under Elizabethan rule, he is drawn to stories of loyalty, betrayal, survival, and ambition. C. R. spends countless hours working on his books, usually in the twilight hours of the morning, though he admits he probably spends just as much time disappearing down research rabbit holes as he does actually writing. Born in Dublin, he has spent most of his adult life in London, where he lives with his wife and cat.
