Description
The Coptic Horologion, also called the agpia (‘the hours’), is a breviary used in the Coptic Orthodox Church for both personal and communal prayers. It utilizes both the biblical psalms and traditional prayers following a theme for each canonical hour. It is a tool to help the Christian to pray.
This book contains a new translation of the Coptic Horologion that is based on the original Coptic text while also aiming to show the shared tradition among the two families of Orthodoxy as many of the prayers shared will have a translation familiar to both.
May this book be a useful tool for Christians, regardless of denomination, teaching them to pray using the prayers compiled by the Egyptian Church throughout the centuries.
Compared to the unabridged version, this version contains:
- each canonical prayer in its entirety (no page turning)
- more extensive footnoting
- a few translational updates
- More art has been incorporated.
- The book is larger (90% more area per page) with 67% bigger print.
