Description
Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme is one of Bach’s most widely performed choral works. It was premiered in Leipzig at the Thomaskirche on November 25, 1731 under the composer’s direction. This is an unabridged digitally enhanced reprint of the vocal score originally issued ca.1925 by G. Schirmer in New York, with an English translation by Henry S. Drinker. The piano reduction is the work of the English composer Ebenezer Prout, most famous today for his edition of Handel’s Messiah. The Schirmer vocal score is a re-engraving of the one issued by Novello around 1900, itself based on the Bach Gesellschaft edtion of Wilhelm Rust. Matching full score and orchestral parts are also available from Serenissima Music.
