Description
This a true story of youthful exuberance achieving remarkable things. Imagine, for a moment, five young 19-year-old Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) Officer Cadets embarking on a 4,000-mile road journey across Europe and Asia Minor having only recently passed their driving tests. Exuberance and inexperience make a potent mix!
We were one of two expeditions heading for Iran, the aim of ours was to reach and explore the 9th Century Alamut Fortress high in the “Valley of the Assassins” nestling in Iran’s rugged Elburz Mountains. This amusing tale is one of fortitude, ineptness and stoicism in the face of many challenges; self-inflicted or otherwise. It is also a call for us all to give our younger generations the opportunity and encouragement to engage in adventurous activities.
