Coffee Table Book of: Antique Books. Old bindings carry the character of their materials. Leather grain, cloth weave, pale parchment and decorated coverings each give a volume a different surface and shape.
The collection follows covers and spines through plain finishes, geometric decoration, gilt edges, marbling and subtle signs of use. Whole objects and closer views make these small differences easy to see.

Short notes run through the book, on covering materials, the parts of a binding and the craft of joining them: woven cloth provides a flexible covering for stiff boards, an awl can make holes for sewing, the fore edge lies opposite the spine, and the head, tail and fore edge reveal the thickness of the gathered leaves.
