Description

Representing England were Jack Hillman and Jerry Dawson followed by Colin McDonald and Tom Heaton. Adam Blacklaw represented Scotland,Nik Michopoulos Greece and Danny Coyne Wales. Throughout there has been success, heartbreak and injuries that have finished the careers of three goalkeepers. William Down at Blackburn in 1929 suffered life threatening injuries followed by Colin McDonald’s broken leg in Ireland. Jerry Dawson made a total of 569 senior appearances for Burnley over a twenty year career followed by Alan Stevenson who made a total of 540 appearances from 1972 to 1983, Both breaking club records along the way. Goalkeeper Tom Heaton in the 2015 / 2016 football season became the first keeper to captain Burnley on a permanent basis and recorded 20 Football League clean sheets equaling Alan Stevensons 20 from the 1980 / 1981 Football League season.
