Description
Samuel Auguste Tissot, the Lausanne physician famous throughout Enlightenment Europe, devoted this treatise to epilepsy: its causes, varieties, prognosis and treatment, drawing on his own cases and on the whole medical literature from Hippocrates onwards, and arguing against the superstition and shame that surrounded the disease. Often regarded as the first modern monograph on epilepsy, it is reproduced from the Lausanne edition of François Grasset, 1789. This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1789 edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
