Description

‘A Diary of Hope: The Story of an American Prisoner of War, brings to life the wartime experiences surrounding Andrew Gabriel’s grandfather, Frank Carollo a radio operator from 348 Squadron, 99th Bomb Group who was shot down aboard the USAA F B-17 Flak Dodger in 1943. Frank kept a diary whilst a POW in Stalag XVII -B during the Second World War and this has been compiled from memory and expanded upon by his grandson, into an inspirational story of hope, love, and survival depicting one man’s courage during some of the darkest days of the war. The book is filled with many drawings and poems, all created by Frank whilst he tried to survive within the camp. Besides his personal writings, also included are stories from his family and friends, as well as photographs, all adding to the central focus of the book; Frank’s diary. The photos, pictures, and personal stories all come together in order to round out the readers’ overall impressions of life as a POW during this harrowing time. The Memories Of The Second World War series, helps give the Veterans and their families the chance to publish their story for posterity and to give readers the chance to explore the stories of these individual men and women, and how they were forever impacted by events of war, like Frank Carollo.’
