Supermarkets. Soft play. School halls. Places that are ordinary to most people and genuinely too much for some children.

The Loud Place is a story about being in one of them. It describes the way noise stops being separate sounds, the way light gets sharp, the way a body starts looking for the exit before the mind knows why. It does not suggest the child should cope better with it.

What it offers instead is recognition and a small, doable way through: something to look for, something to hold, somewhere to put your attention until the world comes back down to size.
