Description
Learning French is much easier when children can see how the language fits into real life.
French for Real Life – Beginner Book 1 has been designed for English-speaking children aged 8–16 who are starting to learn French and want something more engaging than lists of vocabulary and grammar rules.
Across 20 real-life themed units, learners practise French through situations they can recognise and enjoy, including introducing themselves, talking about family and pets, describing their home, going to school, making plans with friends, playing games and sport, ordering food, shopping, having a sleepover, celebrating birthdays, finding their way around town, travelling, going on holiday, discussing the weather, asking for help, communicating safely online, talking about the past and sharing future dreams.
Each unit follows a clear seven-page learning route. Children first meet the language through a real-life bilingual scene, then build vocabulary, collect useful phrases, explore a simple grammar principle, practise key verbs, complete activities and finish with reading and creative challenges.
The book includes:
- high-use French vocabulary and everyday expressions
- simple, child-friendly grammar explanations
- important verbs and practice across present, past and future forms
- speaking and conversation practice
- reading comprehension
- pronunciation and sound guidance
- practical travel and classroom French
- games, challenges and creative missions
- progress tracking and review activities
- grammar, verb and vocabulary reference sections
- a full answer key
The aim is not simply to help children remember French words, but to help them understand, speak and use French with increasing confidence. Learners are encouraged to build complete messages, connect ideas and gradually move between present, completed and future time.
Whether used at home, alongside school lessons, with a tutor or for independent learning, French for Real Life offers a friendly and structured introduction to practical French while keeping learning colourful, relevant and enjoyable.
