Description

Joseph Franz Edler von Jacquin (1766-1839), son of the great botanist Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin, published these Beytraege in Vienna in 1784, dedicating them to the physico-medical society of Basel. The work describes birds then little known to European naturalists and is illustrated with **eleven plates coloured by hand**, among the finest ornithological illustration of the Austrian eighteenth century.All eleven plates are reproduced here in full colour, from the original hand-coloured impressions.This is a faithful print-on-demand facsimile of the 1784 Vienna (Christian Friedrich Wappler) edition, reproduced in full from a library copy. The historical text is reproduced without modification; only the format, margins and legibility have been reset for modern printing.
