Description

The Tiger Who Eats Differently is a heartfelt children’s picture book inspired by the real-life experiences of Arlo, who wanted to create a story that helps children and families living with ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) feel seen, understood, and less alone.

Meet Skip, a friendly tiger who loves adventures, wears his favourite yellow sunglasses, and never goes anywhere without his trusty rucksack filled with safe foods. Skip knows exactly which foods feel safe for him, but explaining that to others isn’t always easy.

‘Something cold and wobbly hit Skip’s ear…’

When an unexpected moment encourages Skip to open up, he begins to share what life with ARFID is really like. Through conversations about the foods he can eat, the foods he can’t, and the emotions that come with feeling different, Skip discovers that understanding begins with kindness, empathy, and simply being willing to listen.

Created from Arlo’s own lived experience, this story was entirely his vision. Inspired by his journey and supported by his mum’s work as an ARFID advocate through ARFID Life UK, the book aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and help children feel proud of who they are.

The Tiger Who Eats Differently is more than just a story—it’s a valuable conversation starter for families, schools, healthcare professionals, and anyone supporting a child with ARFID. It can be used in primary schools, nurseries, libraries, healthcare and medical settings, therapy sessions, and support groups to encourage understanding, inclusion, and meaningful discussions about eating differences.

Perfect for children aged 3–8, this beautifully illustrated picture book promotes empathy, acceptance, and the reassurance that every child deserves to feel understood. It reminds young readers that being different is not something to hide—it’s something to embrace.
