Description
On his deathbed, the titanic industrialist John Millinborn entrusts his oldest friend, the solicitor James Kitson, with a sacred duty: to find his long-lost niece and heir, a young woman living in obscurity, and protect her vast inheritance until she marries wisely. But Millinborn’s final moments are overseen by a mysterious and calculating doctor, a stranger who seems excessively interested in the dying man’s affairs. As Kitson begins his search, he is confronted by a grotesque and malevolent tramp in the woods—a harbinger of the shadowy forces already circling the unknown heiress.
In the foggy streets of London, a plot of unimaginable scale begins to unfurl, centered on a terrifying scientific discovery known only as ‘the green rust.’ Kitson must navigate a web of international criminals and cold-blooded conspirators, all while racing to identify and shield the innocent woman at the center of it all before her legacy—and the world’s safety—is consumed by a chilling, manufactured blight.
